Each athlete should have:

  • Sports bag with extra clothes, possibly extra shoes, socks, rain gear, etc. (Please label items as needed.)
  • Water bottle (also labeled). Please be prepared to use it frequently.
  • Running Shoes--please wear running shoes to all practices and meets.  You will not be able to participate if you forget them.  (You may want to have an extra pair in your bag, just in case.)
  • Wear comfortable clothes for practice that are easy to move in--no jeans.
  • You may want to have a towel in the car for muddy shoes or wet clothes.

Uniforms

Practices: Comfortable clothes and shoes to run in. Dress for the weather (we practice in the heat and rain) and in layers. Please bring sunscreen and sunglasses--and use them. (If you are a third grader, you do not need to purchase a team uniform unless you want to.)

Meets:

Bottoms:  Solid black shorts. The inseam must be at least three inches or longer (for modesty purposes). Your shorts must be longer than your shirt. If you choose to wear leggings (or running tights), you still must wear shorts with a three inch (or longer) inseam over them. If you choose to wear leggings but do not wear shorts over them at a meet, you will not be allowed to participate in that meet. Our uniform is a team shirt and shorts--no exceptions.

Tops:  You can purchase an HRK Eagles Cross Country team uniform shirt online at any time after registration opens. It can be worn alone or over a solid black or white shirt. This shirt is yours to keep; it can also be used for HRK Eagles Track and Field in the spring. (If you already purchased a team shirt either for HRK Eagles Cross Country last autumn or HRK Eagles Track and Field last spring--and your name or a number is not on it--you can use that same shirt for cross country meets. You do not need to purchase another shirt.)

We are phasing out the black uniform shirts with a red, screaming eagle logo on them and switching to black uniform shirts with a white logo. If yours has a red logo, please consider purchasing a black uniform shirt with a white team logo (if financially feasible).

Shirts must be modest, whether at practices or at meets. If your undergarments are visible at a practice, one of your coaches will discretely talk with you about it. If your undergarments are visible at a meet, you will not be allowed to participate in that meet.

Please note that conference uniform requirements include not having an athlete's name on their uniform. (It's okay to have an athlete's name on their warm-up clothing, but not on their uniform.) If you have a name on your HRK Eagles Cross Country or Track and Field uniform shirt, you will need to purchase a new shirt without a name on it. (Please contact if you have questions about this.)

The HRK Eagles Team Store is open year round for you to purchase a team uniform shirt. The shirts must be black and made from a wicking material (polyester, Climalite--not cotton). Suggested youth shirts are here and here. Suggested men's sized shirts are here, here, here, and here. Suggested women's sized shirts are here, here, here, here, and here.

If you do not have the financial ability to purchase an HRK uniform top or shorts, please talk with . Having a tight family budget should not be a barrier to participating in HRK Cross Country.

Please note the Athlete Expectations page on this website, as it pertains to modesty:  "Dress modestly. If in doubt, do not wear it. Shorts need to be at least fingertip long or have a 3 inch or longer inseam. Spandex shorts may be worn under looser shorts. Tank tops, and tops or dresses with spaghetti straps, need to have a shirt or jacket worn over them at all times." It can be challenging to dress modestly in a running sport, but all of us are participating in this activity to glorify God. Let's strive to be as modest as we can while doing our best for Him.
