HRK Eagles Mission Statement:

To provide competitive sports for students who seek to honor God through athletics.

Philosophy:

We believe that God gives physical abilities that can be developed and used to bring Him glory. We provide competitive sports to homeschool families in order to facilitate spiritual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Devotions, character building, skill development, and prayer are an integral part of the program. It is our desire that Jesus Christ be expressed and glorified in the lives of coaches, parents and players in both words and actions.

History:

HRK Eagles began as Home Run Kids, a homeschool co-operative support ministry of Village Church of Gurnee in 1996. The competitive sports program began in 2002. In 2014, the sports program became its own 501c3 non-profit organization. In 2018, the name was changed from Home Run Kids to HRK Eagles. HRK stands for Honor - Righteousness - Kindness.

Sports Offered:

Fall (August - October): Boys Flag Football (Ages 7-18); Girls Volleyball (Ages 10-18); Boys and Girls Cross Country (Ages 10-18)

Winter (October - March): Boys and Girls Basketball (Ages 10-18)

Spring (Feb/March - May): Boys and Girls Track (Ages 10-18); Boys Volleyball (12-18)

Eligibility:

Teams will be made up of primarily homeschooled athletes. In order to be considered homeschooled, they may be taught by parent(s), other relatives, an adult sibling, legal guardian, another homeschool parent or tutor, take an online course or be enrolled in correspondence school. Players may take college level classes for advanced credit but they cannot have officially graduated from high school. Participants MUST NOT be members of a team associated with a public or private school, or club team (example - competitive club volleyball teams) in the same sport they are playing in with HRK Eagles during the same season. Students need to be homeschooled in more than 51% of their classes each year to participate in the Regional and National Home School Championships. Open positions on a team may be filled with non-homeschooled players.  However, the non-homeschooled players would not be allowed to participate in the Regional and National Home School Championships.

Homeschooled vs. Non-homeschooled Athletes:
  • Teams will be made up of primarily homeschooled athletes. However, open positions on a team may be filled with non-homeschooled players.
  • Basketball teams need 8-10 players. Beyond this, the team is considered full and will not be open to non-homeschooled players.
  • Volleyball teams need 10 players. Beyond this, the team is considered full and will not be open to non-homeschooled players.

Competitors:

HRK competes against other homeschool programs, small private schools, and Christian schools. 5th-8th grade teams participate in the local NICC Conference.

Locations:

Most home games and practices are in the Gurnee and Libertyville area. Away games may require travel throughout Lake County and up to about 2 hours for high school competitions.
