HRK Eagles is a competitive home school sports program based in Lake County, Illinois. We offer basketball, volleyball, track, cross country, and flag football. Our programs are for Junior High and High School aged athletes.
Parents are vital to the success of HRK Eagles. HRK Eagles is a volunteer, non-profit organization with a governing board. We need the participation of ALL our families to make HRK Eagles a successful organization. Parents are needed and expected to play a supporting role in this organization. We are NOT a pay and drop off program.
***Parents/Guardians are required to volunteer in some capacity so our group can function well. Please visit Volunteer Central at hrkeagles.org and click Volunteer Expectations for more information.
Honor Christ during interactions with coaches, officials, other parents, and players especially at games. Win and lose graciously.
Offer love, support and encouragement to both their children and the coach, but not instruction. It is the coach’s job to offer constructive criticism of a player’s performance.
Communicate with coachesASAP regarding absences, ideally at least one week before tournaments and 24 hours before practices. Communication between parent and coach is critical to the success of the team. Openness needs to be tempered with discretion and love. Refrain from using email to discuss sensitive issues.
Remember that coaches are doingwhat’s best for the whole team and not only your child. This is a competitive program. Playing time is not equal or guaranteed.
Realize that coaches are fallible and will make mistakes as we all do. Pray for coaches and show grace. Remember that it is ALWAYS easier to critique a situation after it has occurred; whereas coaches make countless decisions in the moment, prior to knowing the outcome. Be positive about coaches with players.
Remember that each coach has a different coaching style, and although it may be different than yours, the primary objective of the coach is to glorify God.
During practice, players and coaches should not be distracted. Coaches reserve the right to hold a closed practice if distraction becomes an issue.
Provide well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks. Food is fuel for players. Parents can benefit players by providing a good diet, plenty of rest, a balanced schedule, time for scripture/memory work and encouraging individual home workouts.
Have realistic expectations. Each player has different God-given abilities and every player may reach plateaus in performance. A parent's constant love and support is crucial.
Be punctual. Player(s) should be on time and ready to play at scheduled times. Players should be picked up promptly following practices and games.
Attend mandatory parent meetings. Playing time may be affected in your child’s next game due to any failures to attend.
Serve in volunteer roles. All parents/guardians are required to sign up to volunteer and be actively involved in the program.
Participate in HRK Eagles fundraisers to help pay for facility, tournament equipment, and official costs. HRK Eagles strives to keep the cost of the sports program as low as possible. The registration fee does not cover the full amount needed for each sport.
